35 Best Solo Travel Destinations in the United States

Whether you're looking for nonstop activity or total relaxation. While traveling with family and friends can be a blast, many folks are opting to see the world on their own. Americans have caught the solo travel bug; a trends report from Hilton estimates that half of travelers will take at least one solo trip in 2025. It could take many forms: a couple of extra nights on a business trip, an overnight staycation for a weary parent or an adventure to boost your confidence and self-reflect. Travel specialists, including those at Good Housekeeping Institute who are exploring the world for GH's annual Travel Awards, pulled together this list of 35 solo travel destinations. These domestic cities are walkable, packed with entertainment, and will help you get your feet wet in this solo travel trend. "For your first few adventures, go where you speak the language to make the navigation a whole lot easier and the culture isn't a big shock," suggests Janice Waugh, founder of Solo Traveler. In other words, knock off a weekend in Santa Fe alone before you set out to climb Machu Picchu as a party of one. When you're ready for longer international adventures, try these spots. Now's the time to book your room for one, plan your itinerary (or wing it) and answer to no one except yourself for a few days!

13 Amusement Parks in the U.S. That Are Completely Free to Enter

A few even charge you nothing for parking and entertainment. Amusement parks are synonymous with so many wonderful things: fun in the sun, rollercoasters and carousels, games galore and delicious food. And all in a colorful, jubilant, family-friendly setting. The only issue? Joy like that does not typically come cheap. Or can it? Well, at these 13 amusement parks across the U.S., from the Golden to the Garden States, you can save on one very important front: entry. While the vast majority of amusement parks — including Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and Busch Gardens — require tickets just to walk through the gates, these resorts and parks do not. Of course, if you want to ride the rides or snack on the snacks, you'll still have to open your wallet. (A good thing can only go so far!) But if you're someone who's more about the vibes than the rides, this is the list for you. Make sure you scroll to the bottom: There's one very famous park that's about to go "open gate" with its water parks for guests staying on property. (Hint: It's home to a special mouse!)

Waves of flight cancellations as tourists fear Trump's wrath

International travelers are changing their travel plans amidst growing concerns about conditions in the US following President Donald Trump’s recent policies. The airline industry notes a trend in flight cancellations to the United States, making industry experts weary that a downfall of tourism to the US will impact its already shaky economy. Tourism Economics, a research institution, blames "polarizing rhetoric" as a key reason the American tourism industry is expected to experience a significant loss in 2025. Early projections estimate that the travel industry will see an over US$60 billion loss, as international travelers choose safer locations for their vacations. Strange discoveries at medieval Cardiff burial site deepen mystery

A new discovery at a medieval cemetery unearthed near Cardiff Airport in 2024 has left archaeologists puzzled, deepening the mystery surrounding the site. The most recent evidence suggests that almost all the skeletons belonged to women who used to engage in heavy manual work due to their bones showing signs of wear and tear. However, the team behind the discovery has also noticed indications of wealth and higher status. Moreover, one woman was found to have been carelessly thrown in a ditch, as opposed to all the others who were buried with care. Overall, there were 39 adult skeletons and two child skeletons, which were buried differently from the adults. As per earlier findings, the 41 skeletons that were found so far were buried lying in unusual positions with strange artefacts, with the cemetery dating to the sixth or seventh century. According to the archaeologists, some of the people from the site were originally from Wales, while others might have been from the south-west of England. The researchers continue to investigate the case, hoping further DNA analysis of the remains can shed more light on the buried individuals, their social class, relationships they had with one another, and the community they belonged to. This discovery can provide important insights into ancient societies and how the people from the region lived in the past. Indeed, that’s exactly what makes archaeology so interesting. It's the scientific study of the human past using material remains. Relics unearthed can be as small as a Roman coin, or as dazzling as a pharaoh's tomb. In fact, the archaeological record consists of artifacts, architecture, biofacts or eco-facts, sites, and cultural landscapes. Archaeology is a challenging but highly rewarding profession, and serves as a fascinating window into how people lived in specific times and places. So, are you thinking about becoming an archaeologist? Click through and dig up some of the most important finds ever unearthed, and learn of those who made these amazing discoveries.
