Businessman, Author, and Philanthropist Vijay Eswaran

Malaysian businessman Vijay Eswaran is an author and the QI Group's executive chairman. Born in Penang, Malaysia, he rose from humble beginnings to become one of the richest men in Asia. Eswaran's success is due to hard work, an excellent education, and good fortune. He studied at the London School of Economics and Southern Illinois University and became professionally qualified at CIMA in the UK.

While Eswaran's education has played a major role in his success, his willingness to work hard to succeed has been just as important. For example, while studying in the U.K., Eswaran worked at a number of different jobs including picking grapes in France, doing construction work in Belgium, and being a London cab driver. While he was in the United Kingdom, he learned about binary system marketing. During his time going to school in the U.S., he worked part time doing multilevel marketing at a company called Synaptics.

When Eswaran returned to Malaysia, the Cosway Group offered him the opportunity to start a branch of their multilevel marketing business in the Philippines. Eswaran accepted the offer. That company, now called the QI Group, grew to be an e-commerce conglomerate which deals with a wide range of industries including telecommunications, corporate investments, travel, training, luxury products, media, and wellness. Through their subsidiaries, they have a presence in 10 countries and regional offices in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.

These days Vijay Eswaran spends much of his time helping others to be successful in business. He speaks at business and management forums and has written a number of books on life management and his personal thoughts, reflections, and philosophy. His books include In the Sphere of Silence (2005), In the Thinking Zone (2008), 18 Stepping Stones (2010), and On the Wings of Thought (2011). He has also developed and produced Thought of the Day, an interactive program.

Eswaran has also established the community development and charitable organizations
The RYTHM Foundation and the Vijayaratnam Foundation. These organizations allow him and QI to give money, mentorship, and training to individuals and charities. For his work Forbes Asia named him one of the region's 48 'Heroes of Philanthropy'. He was also given the New Global Indian award for business excellence and philanthropy in the region in 2012. Vijay Eswaran's wife, Umayal Eswaran, chairs the Vijayaratnam Foundation. This very vibrant, effective, much beloved charitable organization is named after his father.
