HISTORICAL BRAZILIAN TOWN HOSTS ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF DIVINE HOLY SPIRIT

Known as the Festa do Divino Espírito Santo, the event blends Catholic rituals with folklore, theatre, and music in a tradition dating back to the 19th century.

A central highlight is the Cavalhadas, where participants dressed as medieval knights re-enact symbolic battles between Christians and Moors.

Masked riders, or mascarados, bring humour and mystery, concealing their identities as they ride through the streets.

The festivities also include religious processions, symbolic rituals, and community events.
