Ancient handprint discovered in excavation in Jerusalem

Elements of the fortifications of ancient Jerusalem and a mysterious handprint carved in rock were discovered in the city during excavations carried out by the Israel Antiquities Authority. The archaeological excavations were carried out along the main street Sultan Suleiman that runs adjacent to the city walls. During the excavations, part of a deep defensive moat that surrounded the city walls was revealed, probably dating back to the 10th century AD and possibly earlier. An unexplained handprint was discovered at a point carved into the moat wall.
