Missing flight MH370: what do we know 10 years on?

The 2014 disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 is one of the most shocking air travel disasters in recent history. The plane was traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing when it vanished from the radars over the Indian Ocean. No survivors or wreckage were ever found, and countless family members still have no closure a decade later. Ahead of the 10th anniversary, many family members of the victims returned to Malaysia to campaign for a new search. Hundreds of millions of dollars were spent searching 274 square miles (710 square kilometers) of the Indian Ocean between 2014 and 2018, but Malaysian authorities called off their efforts after years with no results. The US sea exploration company Ocean Infinity has recently offered a “no-find, no-fee” deal to authorities and says their technology has improved significantly since the last search. Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke confirmed that his department is ready to discuss a new contract with Ocean Infinity and would do everything in their power to convince the Cabinet.
